5 of the Most Expensive Foods in the World

5. Westin Hotel Bagel

It costs $1000 and looks just like an ordinary bagel but what is it that makes it so special? It is the creation of the executive chef of the Westin hotel, Chef Frank Tujague. The element that is the main reason behind the very high price of this bagel is the white truffle which is infused in cream cheese. At the same time another important element is the Italian fungus which is one of the most expensive type of fungus in the world.

4. Domenico Crolla’s Pizza Royale 007

This one pizza costs around $4,200 . The most unique thing about this pizza by Chef Domenico Crolla is that he makes portraits on his pizza with edible ingredients. The pizza Royale-007 was a 12 inch pizza with a beautiful combination of tomato sauce, alcoholic beverage infused savory ingredients and smoked Scottish salmon. On top of that it had 24 carat gold flakes for garnishing! Unfortunately the James bond films group didn’t commission this recipe.

3. Densuke Black Watermelon

Once a “Densuke Black watermelon” that weighed 17 pounds was sold for $6,100. What makes this a very expensive fruit is not hard to answer. Top of the list is it’s production – it is only grown in a Japanese Island and it’s harvest is done once a year which Yields to a total product of just a few dozen of those watermelons. The sweetness, crispiness and the hardness is almost perfect.

2. Almas Caviar

You can imagine the worth of this when we tell you the fact that it is sold in 24 carat gold tins. Caviars are already an expensive type of food and this Almas caviar is even more expensive! Even the shops that sell Almas caviar are not easy to find. Its selling price is $24,000 and if a person just wants to have a taste of it then it comes in smaller tins at a much ‘cheaper price of $1,250, so not too expensive (joke).

1. Italian White Alba Truffle

Truffles are already known for being very expensive but this Italian White Alba truffle is one of the rarest kinds of truffles you can buy. The reason truffles are so expensive is because they are difficult to cultivate and other than that, the flavor. Once, 1.51 grams of Italian White Alba Truffle was sold for $160,000 to a Hong Kong couple. Some people really do have more money than sense.
